Record Day; A Vinyl Fanatics Holiday

Written by: Adam Schanke, Sports Marketing Manager

Several months ago I wrote about local Fox Cities beer and mentioned I often seek out breweries and brewpubs when traveling. When experiencing other destinations, I also like to visit record stores. With Record Store Day taking place this Saturday, April 16th, there is no better time to write about places to hunt for vinyl in the Fox Cities.

Vinyl records have made a huge comeback in recent years and most new albums are now released on vinyl, in addition to CD and digital download.

Record Store Day, held the third Saturday in April, has been one of my favorite days of the year since I began buying music on vinyl five years ago. Record Store Day celebrates independently owned record stores throughout the world with special limited vinyl and CD releases, in-store performances, artist meet and greets, various promotional products, and more.

ExclusiveCoStoreFrontExclusive Company (770 W Northland Ave, Appleton) will be opening at 7:00am on Saturday. Myself, along with dozens of others, will be lined up before sunrise to get some of the highly sought after Record Store Day limited releases of our favorite artists. Some releases are limited to as little as 250 copies worldwide. View the full list of Record Store Day releases on the Record Store Day website. In addition to the special releases, Exclusive Company will have 1,000+ new clearance LPs, 500 newly acquired used LPs, and more. When they aren’t celebrating Record Store Day, Exclusive Company has the largest selection of new and used vinyl in the Fox Cities. They even have a section for local artists. If you do not see the album or artist you are looking for, be sure to ask the staff as chances are they will be able to order it for you.

TopSpinsAlthough they will not have Record Store Day special releases, Top Spins (111 S Appleton St, Appleton) across from Houdini Plaza in downtown Appleton is a great place in the Fox Cities for hard to find vinyl, in addition to cassettes, 8-tracks, laser discs, books, and various vintage items. Top Spins specializes in rock, metal, punk, garage, jazz, and blues records. For record collectors in search of first pressings, this is the place for you. One of my favorite things about Top Spins is the staff often lets customers put an album of their favorite band on the turntable while they flip through rows of records.

Additional places that sell vinyl in the Fox Cities include:
