Spring time is finally here and that means it is time to put away those heavy sweaters and winter décor! These warmer days give me the itch to clean my house and my closet and bring a fresh breath of spring into both. Shopping is one of my favorite things to do, especially with a change of seasons. Here are a just a few of the great stores here in the Fox Cities offering ideas of how you can freshen up your closet and home this season!
FOR YOUR CLOSET
Lillian’s of Appleton
115 E. College, Appleton
Spring is one of the most difficult seasons to dress for due to the change in the weather. To make sure you dress correctly mix up your wardrobe with multiple different options and weights of fabrics. Since it’s the transition season from freezing to warmth you want to be prepared for the elements as well as the colors. Mix your closet with light sweaters and chiffons and colors like greys and bright corals and blues. These paired with multiple different accessories, will allow you to work well with the weather and look your best yet for this season.
Dresses are also great options for the spring, throw on a jacket or hat along with it to warm it up a little bit on a cool day. Be prepared for whatever because comfort during this transition from winter is one of the most important things, especially in a state like chilly Wisconsin. Enjoy the new found warmth, play with colors and fabrics to make your wardrobe interesting and fun for the new season!

When it comes to trends these days, you will find a plethora the more magazines you read or stores you shop. You might wonder, “how can these all be trends of the season?”. It’s just the way things are now with fashion moving at such a quick pace. My suggestion is to choose the ones you love and that work for your lifestyle. So here are just a few of the many:
- Pattern mixing: Especially stripes and florals, dots and florals, and plaids and florals
- The fit and flare dress: Popular since it accentuates the
positive and hides the negative for most women
- The shift dress: Another easy dress option that works well with prints and textures
- Modern architectural prints: Multi colored or two toned, these prints are very wearable and work well for a professional wardrobe
- The wide leg pant: Keep your leggings and skinny pants, but make room for this easy breezy new pant style
Located inside Fox River Mall, 4301 W. Wisconsin Ave, Appleton
- The Good Life Succumb to the charms of country club luxury and seaside escapes with modern updates on the classics. Gingham, eyelet and floral prints in peony pink, limoncello yellow and sweet chartreuse adorn fit-and-flare dresses, crisp blouses, and cigarette pants.
- Denim Dressing
Denim continues to lead the fashion pack in spring, and unexpected applications of the ubiquitous fabric highlight the offerings at Macy’s. Distressed, frayed an
d patchwork styles carry on this season’s folk-heroine 1970s vibe. Crisp white and blue washes rule the scene as skirts with button-front details, dyed-to-look-denim sweatshirts, and delicate sundresses reinvent the trend. And don’t be afraid to put denim on denim to layer your look! When you do your denim, remember that the flare leg is back to give you another dressing option
- Bohemian Escape
Macy’s is living the hippie fantasy, channeling gypsy style. Back are the flea market finds of paisley maxis, flare-leg pants and suede tunics, now with a bohemian-meets-bourgeois application. Psychedelic prints harmonize with semi-bright shades and warm tones, and beads, fringe, and patchwork are defining elements of this festival-ready look.

The trends we see for spring are definitely a strong 1970s vibe. Faded blue jeans with an exaggerated flare bottom not quite bell bottoms. Blue jean dresses and skirts. Blue jean tunics. Red White And Blue combinations. Plaids in spring colors. Lace, crochet and ivory blouses as well as dresses with a soft flowing feminine vibe. White on white. Cute flats and definitely converse with so many looks.
In home decor it is very much about textures and visual interest. Combining different mediums. Metal, wood and words. Repurposing new and old together.

This Spring we are seeing many natural elements… lots of twigs, faux flowers, eggs and nests! Spring also brings a sense of renewal… so we find customers looking to add or replace a piece of furniture in their home. Refinished, painted furniture is still trending very well for us! Consumers love the idea of taking an outdated, vintage piece and giving it new life! We find that people are loving the traditional look of the stained tops of dressers and sideboards with painted bases… in both whites and creams along with fun blues and yellows! Spring is such a fun, inspiring time of year… many of the decorating elements for
Spring can be used throughout the Summer… simple elements have such an impact!

As always, we like to change things up for the season change and trends of color always
set a tone. Natural elements of rustic wood are really hot this year. Birds are always fun along with nests to spruce up the mantel or a fresh table arrangement for the table. Wrought iron candle orbs and topiaries are fun to work in to any decor.
Custom reclaimed furniture are great pieces to work in to living spaces. Shiny and crystal chandiliers still a favorite for decorating girl spaces as well as in the home to add a little bling. Leather up cycled bracelets with vintage jewels are made by local artists and are one of a kinds.
